Kamakura offers numerous temples, shrines and other historical monuments.
Kamakura is called “the Kyoto of Eastern Japan”, because it used to be the capital of Japan from 12th to 14th century. It’s the first government by the Shogun, a top of samurai warriors. Kamakura offers numerous temples, shrines and other historical monuments.
In this tour, we will visit four famous temples and one shrine.
The basic itinerary is as follows,
9:00 Meet at your Hotel and move to Kamakura by train.
10:30 Arrive at Hase station.
The big Buddha in Kotokuin. This temple was built in 13th century and this Buddha is the landmark of Kamakura. (Entrance fee:200 JPY except the guide)
Hase-dera Temple. This temple was built in 8th century and it has a nice Japanese garden, statues of Buddha, view of the Pacific Ocean and a unique cave shrine. In June and July, hydrangea is so beautiful. (Entrance fee:300 JPY except the guide)
Hokoku-ji Temple. This temple was built in 14th century and has a beautiful bamboo forest. This temple is something different from other temples in Kamakura ( Entrance fee : 200 JPN except the guide).
Hachimangu Shrine. This shrine was the official guardian shrine of the Kamakura shogunate and worshiped by warriors as deity of the military.
Kenchoji Temple. This temple was built in 13th century and ranked the highest Zen temple in Kamakura. (Entrance fee: 500 JPN except the guide)
