Summary

Do you want to travel around enjoyable spots in Japan?
This tour will take you to really enjoyable spots to experience Japanese traditional culture and rural life!

On this tour we will visit Ogawa-machi town in Saitama prefecture, about 1 hour away form Tokyo.
Ogawa-machi is well-known for Japanese traditional hand-made paper, Washi.
It has history of about 1300 years inherited from the Nara era.
Its manufacturing technique is designated as an important national cultural asset (intangible cultural heritage).
But even though it is famous for washi, there are many other attractions in Ogawa-machi.
So we will walk around to find them.

First, we will visit a Washi handicraft studio to see how the paper is made.
It is worth watching the process of making it at a real studio.

Next, we will go to a Craft Center to see the variety of Japanese traditional handicrafts, and here you can make the paper by yourself and buy craft works for souvenir as well.

Then, we will have free lunch time at Michi-no-Eki Ogawa-machi, the public facility where you can get local products.
There you can eat soba or udon noodles at a reasonable price.

After lunch, we will walk around the small rural town to see a temple, an old elementary school and so on.
Then, we will climb a small mountain, Sengen-yama. There you can have a splendid view from a tall sightseeing tower on the top.
If the weather is good, you can look down the whole town of Ogawa-machi surrounded by a large forest, and see famous majestic mountains, Nikko, Akagi, Haruna, Tsukuba, etc far away.
And one more thing that will excite you is the 203-meter long Roller Slide.
This slide was made from the local citizens to attract more people to the town.
You can taste a bit of thrill as if you slide down in the air with the splendid view around!

Lastly, we will drop by a liquor brewery of Japanese rice wine, sake.
There you can see inside the brewery, and if you want, you can taste sake.

Yes, you can have a really solid and enjoyable time!
Even though you can't find those spots on guide books, it's surely worth visiting!!
Come on and have fun with me,
and a Little Monkey!
