Shuzenji Onsen (修善寺温泉) is one of the oldest and most famous hot spring resort towns on the Izu Peninsula. Located in the hilly center of the peninsula, it lacks the ocean views of many nearby hot spring towns but attracts visitors with its history and attractive setting.

※Shuzenji Onsen was named after Shuzenji Temple (修禅寺) at the center of the town. Kobo Daishi, one of Japan's most important religious personalities, founded the temple about 1200 years ago. Today, it is a Zen Buddhist temple where visitors can participate in meditation classes (Tuesdays from 9:00). Kobo Daishi is also said to have created Shuzenji's most prominent hot spring, Tokko-no-yu, located in the middle of the river bed that runs through the town center. Today, Tokko-no-yu is used as a foot bath.

Other attractions in Shuzenji's town center include a small bamboo forest, several historic ryokanand a few tastefully designed shops and cafes. Onsen bathing is possible at the town's public bath, Hakoyu. Furthermore, several town's ins (called Ryokan) open their baths to non-staying guests during daytime for a fee of around 1000 yen.

※Mount Omuro (大室山, Ōmuroyama) is an extinct volcano near the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula, south of central Ito City. It is shaped like an inverted rice bowl and has a beautiful silhouette that can be seen from most places in the Izu Kogen area. Mount Omuro is about 580 meters high and has a crater with a diameter of about 300 meters which takes about 15 to 30 minutes to circle on foot.
Visitors must take a chair lift up the mountain in order to walk around the crater. The top of the mountain offers 360-degree-panoramic views that include Mount Fuji and Oshima Island when it is sunny. More ambitious visitors can also try their hand at archery in the crater as well as paragliding down the side of the mountain. The Izu Cactus Park near the base of Mount Omuro is also recommended when you like flowers.

※The Jogasaki Coast (城ヶ崎海岸, Jōgasaki Kaigan) is a beautiful section of coastline along the Izu Peninsula's eastern coast. It is located in the Izu Kogen area, about ten kilometers south of central Ito. An attractive hiking trail follows the coast for almost ten kilometers, offering beautiful views of the jagged cliffs and stone formations that hug the coast. It is also possible to walk shorter sections of the trail.

The most popular section of the hiking trail is located around the 23 meter long and 48 meter high Kadowakizaki Suspension Bridge. Not far from the bridge stands also a lighthouse with a freely accessible observation deck from where visitors can view the beautiful coastline and Oshima Island when visibility allows. A parking lot is located near the suspension bridge and at a couple of other points along the trail.

※Kuroneiwa Onsen is a Japanese-style hot spring run by Kitagawa at zero meters above sea level. So many onsen fans go there to enjoy the natural bath. In four seasons, and every hour, the sea in Kitagawa makes you pleased. Kurone Iwaburo (the Japanese traditional bath) also makes you happy by showing you many seasonal expressions. It has a bath which men and women, old and young can take together.

※The Izu Peninsula (伊豆半島, Izu Hantō) is a resort area popular for its hot springs, beautiful coastlines, beaches, mild climate and scenic mountainous interior. Located about 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo, its proximity to the city makes the peninsula a popular weekend getaway and the area is well connected to Tokyo by train. In addition, Mount Fuji lies only about 50 kilometers to the north and can be viewed from the peninsula's western coast.

The more developed eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula is home to larger cities such as Atami, Itoand Shimoda, which are popular for their beaches and hot springs. The southern and western coasts, on the other hand, are less developed and better known for their rugged coastlines which are best exemplified by the views around Irozaki and Dogashima.
