Welcome to Singapore. Get an introduction to the local culture with a tour around Chinatown and Tiong Bahru. I can help you if you
Singapore is an intriguing blend of Western modernity and Asian culture. For first-timers, it’s an excellent way to get introduced to living in Asia. Within a total area of roughly 700 square kilometres which is smaller than London, New York or Hong Kong, you’ll find an interesting mix of old and new. We have gleaming skyscrapers, chains of airconditioned shopping malls, Chinese shophouses/temple, Malay mosques, Hindu temples and 24-hour coffeeshops. Singapore is safe, clean, and green – proud of its reputation as a Garden City.
This introduction tour takes you around Chinatown for a look at the quaint buildings that have stood the test of time. I will walk you through the food street and show you some of the special shops that have been around for a long time. It is rare to see an Indian temple in the heart of Chinatown and yet we have it. A few streets down, try the famous egg tarts from Tong Heng. Walk to Keong Siak Street where ladies of the night used to beckon visitors. Look at the most expensive public housing ever build. Guess how much one can cost you. Take the subway or local bus to Tiong Bahru which one of the earliest housing estates build in Singapore. Be transported to the 60s. Visit the Monkey God temple. Try local food at a hawker centre. We end our tour at Tiong Bahru Subway.
Tour will be customised to fit 2 hours and I will consider your tour and food preference. Please let me know what types of food you would like to try. Will it be fresh nonya spring rolls, chicken rice/noodles, laksa, dimsum, curry, malay rice or Indian cuisine?
