The Kabukicho district in Shinjuku is famous for a lot of things: love hotels, host and hostess clubs, cabaret shows, themed restaurants, gay bars, and an incredible night life. If you visit Kabukicho in Shinjuku often, you might to want to go inside a Host club or a Hostess club, just to see what they are like.
So before you go inside your first host or hostess club in Kabukicho, here are some things you should know:
1. It's going to be expensive.
Make sure you bring a sizable amount of cash, at least over 10,000 to be safe. Kabukicho is one of the most expensive places in Shinjuku.
2. You should dress nicely.
Going to a host or hostess club is a great night out. One of the best things to do in Tokyo is dress up and enjoy the nightlife. Kabukicho has a pretty interesting nightlife.
3.You don't have to decide ahead of time which host or hostess club to visit.
The newest members of host and hostess clubs usually have to work outside the shop, standing on the street and attracting new people. New members and host and hostess clubs can be pushy; one of the main ways they can advance their standing in the club and become an 'official' host or hostess with a following is to bring people in.
Be careful, though. Some of clubs are very expensive and will surprise you with a super expensive, hidden cost. The safest way is to only go to clubs in magazines about Kabukicho or Shinjuku.
4. Host and Hostess clubs ‘rank’ their members.
The top hosts and hostesses will have their faces plastered on the outside of the club. You can look at the pictures outside clubs until you find hosts or hostesses that are your ‘type.’ The Kabukicho district in Shinjuku is supposed to have clubs and bars for every type.
5. Most host or hostess clubs offer a discount for first-time visitors.
They do this so that you get hooked and want to come back. As a result, it is very fun to be a first-time visitor in Kabukicho, Shinjuku.
6. The men and women are incredible friendly.
Their job is to make you feel good about yourself using words. They are great listeners and very smooth talkers. While this doesn't necessarily appeal to foreigners, chatting with a host or hostess is one of the most interesting things to do in Kabukicho, Shinjuku.
7. You are paying for a large group of women or men to dote on you.
Enjoy it. It is fun to get doted on. You will also probably get lots of personal business cards from the hosts or hostesses.
8. There will not be any inappropriate touching or sexual favors.
The Kabukicho area in Shinjuku has several types of services, but host and hostess clubs are usually only for talking and drinking. If you are interested in a different kind of evening, go to a different kind of shop in Kabukicho.
