Watch the Javanese opera, or wayang orang, at WO Bharata, a troupe that has survived and grown for over 40 years in the hustle and bustle of metropolis Jakarta. The show offers stories based on the Hindu epic Mahabharata and Ramayana, adapted for stage, told in narratives and dances and fierce action scenes, to the accompaniment of the hauntingly beautiful and expressive gamelan music. The play is performed in Javanese language. The show is only available on Saturday night. Visit backstage to see the performers dress for the show optional. Cost includes interpreting service and one ticket to the playhouse on Jl. Kalilio No. 15, Senen, Jakarta Pusat. Book at least a week in advance.
