The Gundam Café is arguably one of the most famous themed restaurants in Akihabara and even Tokyo. The shop is near Akihabara station; is usually packed, even on weekdays. The menu is pretty standard and has several varieties. If you're feeling adventuresome, one of the interesting things to do is try some of their ‘themed' lunches, like the Amuro Ray Pilot Lunch (アムロ・レイのパイロットランチ). The inside of the restaurant is simple and chic, with large televisions playing Gundam-related programs scattered around the restaurant. The shop also has original comic strips as well as figurines decorating the walls.

AKB48 Café

AKB48 is an incredibly famous female idol group composed of 48 members (hence the name). Waitresses in the AKB48 Café don one of the many AKB48 costumes; when you go to the café, you can pretend the waitresses are some of your favorite stars. The menu is supposedly designed by the AKB48 members and most of the items are related to AKB48 in some way. There is also a gift store connected to the building, so after a cup of coffee and cake, you can buy posters of your favorite girls.

Rather than women dressing up in a cat costume, as you might expect, cat cafés are actually cafes where you can play with real, live cats. Cat cafes are one of the best things to do in Akihabara. The rooms are usually colorful, with couches, plushy chairs, and rugs arranged for guests to sit on. Cats in the shop will lounge around the room and approach visitors. One of the best cat cafés in Akihabara is Neko JaLaLa. You can grab a cup of coffee and a small sandwich while cuddling with any of the soft, friendly cats.

Maid and Butler Cafés

Akihabara has grown famous for their maid and butler cafés. The general concept of each cafe plays on different fantasies. Waitresses in a maid café are cute, perky girls who wear French Maid costumes. Sometimes they wear bunny or cat ears to emphasize their cuteness. Waiters in the Akihabara butler cafés, on the other hand, wear either a black suit or tuxedo with white gloves. At each café, one of the favorite things to do is pay a bit extra to take pictures with the waiters and waitresses.
