Maid Cafés are somewhat of a specialty in Akihabara. A maid café is exactly what it sounds like, a shop where you are severed by women in maid costumes. The first Maid Cafe was established in Akihabara back in 2001, since then their popularity has skyrocketed. Most of the women’s costumes vaguely resemble a French maid, except with more color, shorter skirts, and higher heels. You typically have to pay a table charge before you sit down at any of the shops in Akihabara, and have a time limit for how long you can stay in the restaurant.
